Chapter 5 Explanation of the prescriptions of Anyu’s miraculous medicine series
   Ling Bian Bi Dan No. 1 (Constipation-relieving pellet No. 1)
[Main components] Seed of hemp fimble (semen Cannabis), apricot seed (semen Prunus armeniaca), root of common aucklandia (radix Aucklandia lappa), and other warming and reinforcing Chinese medicine (processed from pure Chinese drugs, none of western medicine is included).
[Efficacy] Clear heat, moisten intestines, and relieve stagnation.
[Indications] Constipation and dry stool hard to defecate due to accumulation of heat in intestines and stomach.
[Explanation of the prescription] Zhubingyuanhoulun Dabianbingzhuhou Dabianbutonghou indicated that: “Constipation┈┈is due to the entrance of heat Qi into intestines and stomach, body fluid becomes exhausted and dried, and leads to the stagnation of dry stool.” Heat in intestinal tract consumes body fluid and forms dry stool. In this prescription, drugs for clearing heat, moistening intestines and promoting defecation are chosen as the “monarch”; drugs for relieving stagnation, nourishing Yin and harmonizing the interior environment are chosen as the “minister”. Such composition may clear heat, promote fluid production and moisten intestines on the one hand, and stimulate the transmitting function of intestinal tract on the other hand, and thus relieve constipation.
[Precaution] Tea drinking is forbidden 15 min. before and 30 min. after medication.
   Ling Li Ji Dan No. 3 (Dysentery-relieving pellet No. 3)
[Main components] Root of common peony (radix Paeonia lactiflora), root of Baikal skullcap (radix Scutellaria baicalensis), root of common aucklandia (radix Auckladia lappa), and others (processed from pure Chinese drugs, none of western medicine is included).
[Efficacy] Clear heat, disperse dampness and remove toxical material, regulate Qi, promote blood circulation and relieve stagnation.
[Indications] Dysentery with abdominal pain, tenesmus, reddish and whitish dysentery.
[Explanation of the prescription] Wenbingtiaobian zhongjiaopian indicated that: “Internal accumulation of damp-heat accompanied with stagnation of food blocks the transportation of Qi and blood and causes dysentery. It was classified as a serious disease in ancient days because it attacks deeply into viscera.” In this prescription, drugs for clearing heat, dispersing dampness and removing toxical material are chosen as the “monarch”; drugs for activating blood and regulating nutrient Qi are chosen as the “minister” to relive spasm and stop pain; moreover, drugs for promoting Qi and relieving stagnation are also supplemented. Such composition may achieve the effect of so called “Hematochezia with pus will be cured through promotion of blood circulation; tenesmus will be relieved by regulation of Qi.”
[Curative effect] The curative effect may generally be felt at the right day of, and the illness may be cured about 2-6 days after medication.
[Precaution] Tea drinking is forbidden 15 min. before and 30 min. after medication.
